National Life Safety Group Partners with The Ottawa Mission to Deliver Accredited Fire Code and Safety Training for New Superintendents

Ottawa, ON – April 03-2025 – National Life Safety Group (NLSG) is proud to announce its partnership with The Ottawa Mission to deliver its accredited fire code and safety training as part of the Mission’s Maintenance Services Training Program (MSTP). This initiative empowers individuals facing homelessness and poverty by providing career opportunities in building management while reinforcing fire safety standards across the industry.

Building Careers, Strengthening Communities

The Ottawa Mission has been a cornerstone of support for vulnerable individuals, offering essential services to help rebuild lives. With the launch of MSTP, the organization is bridging a crucial labor gap by equipping participants with the technical skills and certifications needed for stable employment as building superintendents.

This four-month program integrates classroom instruction, hands-on training, and industry-recognized certification in critical maintenance areas, including plumbing repairs, carpentry, drywall maintenance, painting, janitorial work, and general upkeep.

Fire Safety: A Critical Responsibility

Recognizing the essential role of fire safety in property management, The Ottawa Mission partnered with National Life Safety Group to incorporate accredited fire safety training into MSTP. This ensures graduates are not only skilled in building maintenance but also prepared to protect lives and property through Fire Code compliance and emergency preparedness.

NLSG is honored to support this initiative by donating resources and delivering specialized training designed for building superintendents. The program:

  • Meets and exceeds Ontario Fire Code requirements.

  • Is specifically tailored for building managers, superintendents, and onsite building staff.

  • Ensures compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OHSA).

  • Is accredited and endorsed by the Institution of Fire Engineers Canada.

  • Is recognized by the Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario (CMRAO) for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits.

Each program graduate successfully achieved the required 75% passing grade, ensuring they enter the workforce with the expertise to enhance fire safety and regulatory compliance in residential and commercial properties.

Transforming Lives and Strengthening the Industry

The MSTP follows the proven success of The Ottawa Mission’s food training program, which has helped hundreds of individuals secure employment in the food service industry. To date, 373 participants have graduated from the food program, with 90% securing jobs. This same model is now being applied to building management, equipping individuals with skills that meet industry needs while helping to break the cycle of homelessness.

"Having had the privilege of delivering this program firsthand, I witnessed the enthusiasm and determination of the participants. They were engaged, eager to learn, and deeply understood the importance of their training. Their energy and commitment are a testament to the potential this program unlocks," said Jason Reid, Senior Advisor, National Life Safety Group.

By investing in education and safety, The Ottawa Mission and NLSG are fostering a stronger, more skilled workforce and enhancing fire safety in buildings across the community. This partnership is not just about training; it is about creating meaningful career pathways and building safer, more resilient communities.
